Piotr Malakhovski, the Polish silver Olympic medalist of disk throw, sold his medal to help a three-year-old boy, who suffers from retinoblastoma - malignant tumor of retina , reports the Newsru.

Earlier, in his social network page Malakhovski said that after Olympic games Oleg’s mother turned to his for a help.  Oleg, who has been fighting cancer, needs a treatment in New York, which his parents cannot afford. Therefore, 33-year-old athlete raised money in the auction for his medal to finance the treatment of the boy.

" Winning an Olympic medal is one of an athlete's life dreams. Of course, the most precious is gold. I did everything in my power to get it. Unfortunately this time I did not succeed. However, fate gave me a chance to increase the value of my ‘silver,”  wrote Malakhovski on the Facebook.

Soon the athlete said he had found the buyers.  Malakhovski did not disclose the price, he would receive for his medal, but the media outlets repot that the amount is enough to cover the treatment of the child, which costs $ 130 thousand.
