Stepan Borozenets, a renowned pilot during World War II and only hero of the ex-Soviet Union to have settled in the United States, has passed away in Chicago, reported TASS news agency of Russia. 

The veteran pilot died on August 26.

Hero of the ex-USSR had turned 94 on August 22.

In recent years, Borozenets was living in a nursing home for the elderly.

He is survived by a son and a grandson, Michael, who is also a pilot.
