If in an isolated population the number of men exceeds the number of women, it does not result in frequent divorces or instability of relationship. On the contrary, the regions of similar gender distribution of the population are characterized by strong marital unions and frequent marriages. The Live Science Magazine presents the findings of American researchers, who conducted a study based on the comparative analyses of 2800 national census data from 50 US states. A special attention in the study was paid to the relationship between men and women, the number of marriages, the percentage of families in which children are growing up and where women are bringing up their children alone.

Surprisingly, in regions where gender distribution makes a ratio of 55/45 in favor of men, the marriages exceeded for 10 percent.  In addition, in those regions the number of children born in extramarital relations as well as the number of divorced women are rather small, 13% and 10 % respectively. Thus, the scientists have completely refuted the widespread “superfluous men" theory, according to which any settlements with gender distributions of populations that have strong inclinations towards men are frequently characterized with unstable marital unions.
