YEREVAN. – Around 4,500 people have been considered missing in Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan since 1992, representative of ICRC Yerevan office Zara Amatuni said.

According to her, the indicators are based solely on the applications of the families.

“A story, fate, pain, memory is behind the figures. People are missing, there is no answer yet. They still are there for their relatives,” Zara Amatuni said.

The ICRC, she continued, is trying to raise the issue every year. The problem of missing persons is one of the priority issues.

“And in the Karabakh conflict, this problem is not an exception. The ICRC is working with all parties to the conflict. We collected data based on communication with the families. Relevant commissions on three sides (Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan) have lists of missing persons,” she added.
