The police of New Zealand are investigating disappearance of 500 cows from one of the farms on the southern island, reports the BBC- Russian service. As the locals report, they have never encountered such a great number of cattle theft before. The loss was revealed, after the animals had been counted. There were 1300 cows during the previous counts at the beginning of July. The police suggest that the thefts was took place separately within two months.

The owner of the farm has not commented on the incident . According to the preliminary calculations , the damage caused to him makes up to $750 thousand. There are about 10 million cows in New Zealand, which is almost 2 times higher than the population number. The cost per cow makes  about $ 1,000. Farmers note an there is an electronic number plate is installed in each cow's ear.  It can be removed after the theft. However, it will be more difficult to sale animals, if they don’t have plates.
