Armenian Ambassador to Georgia Yuri Vardanyan has petitioned the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office to draw up a procedural deal with one of the six arrestees, Ashot Goroyan, in the case involving the sales of Uranium-238 radioactive agent, Sputnik-Georgia reports, citing the Goroyan’s attorney, Temur Gogsadze.

“The only thing I can confirm is that such a petition regarding Ashot Goroyan indeed exists. I’ll reiterate, Mr Ambassador is a diplomat and he may do the same with regard to any other Armenian citizen. We petitioned the Prosecutor’s Office on around August 10,” Gogsadze said, Novosti Georgia reports.

The Ambassador and the attorney justified the petition by the fact that Goroyan is not accessory to the mentioned crime as much as the rest of the accused. Besides, he has problems with his health.

On April 18, the State Security Service of Georgia informed about the arrest of the Armenian citizens Ashot Goroyan, Mihran Movsisyan and Haykaz Hovakyan, as well as Georgian citizens Tamaz Bichikashvili, Mukhtar Tskitishvili and Savle Lursmanashvili on charges of unlawful acquisition and sale of Uranium-238 radioactive agent. According to the investigation, the defendants were going to sell the nuclear material for $200 million USD.
