YEREVAN. – Law enforcement of the Republic of Armenia (RA) was given inaccurate operational data during the well-known events in connection with the Sasna Tsrer armed group’s takeover of a police patrol regiment building in capital city Yerevan, on July 17, according to Zhoghovurd newspaper.

“And now, the hypothesis that the bloody events, which occurred in the late evening hours on July 29 and early morning hours on July 30 in Sari Tagh [district of capital city Yerevan], were a result of misrepresenting the situation, is actively discussed.

“According to Zhoghovurd’s reliable information, before the clashes [in Sari Tagh], the RA Police and NSS [i.e. National Security Service] headship was reported that, allegedly, a group of demonstrators armed with stones and sticks was moving toward the PS [i.e. patrol service] regiment area from Sari Tagh, and that it was going to break through the police barrier and join Sasna Tsrer. And based on this information, it was instructed to disperse, at all costs, the demonstrators assembled in Sari Tagh.

“Zhoghovurd tried to get a comment from RA Police Media Department Chief Ashot Aharonyan, regarding the above news. In response, he said: ‘The case is under investigation, the answer to all questions—after the end of the investigation,’” wrote Zhoghovurd.
