Spain has failed the subsequent attempt to form a stable government.

The candidacy of the former PM Mariano Rajoy was turned down by the majority of the MPs: 170 MPS voted for and 180 against the leader of the Popular  Party (PP), BFM reports citing El Mundo.

During the talks prior to the voting, Rajoy managed to secure the backing of not only the members of his party but also those of Citizens (Ciudadanos) Party. However, this wasn’t enough for the victory. The head of the opposition Socialist party (PSOE) entirely voted against Rajoy’s election.

Nevertheless, the PP leader still has an opportunity to assume the post of the prime minister. For this he needs to win the simple majority of the MPs’ votes during the second tour slated for Friday.
