STEPANAKERT. - The Nagorno-Karabakh sees no problems in the visits of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights or his representatives to the country.

Spokesman of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) President, Davit Babayan, said the aforementioned, commenting on the statement of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein upon the request of Armenian News – NEWS.am.

According to Babayan, in his statement the High Commissioner stated about the absence of access to the conflict zone, especially after the April war, this hindering the analysis of the situation in which the refugees have appeared. Despite the fact that the High Commissioner didn’t mention Armenia or Nagorno-Karabakh in this connection, the Azerbaijani media outlets went on to state that the High Commissioner accused Armenia and NKR, he noted.

“This is a very interesting psychological point. Despite the wording, the manner in which  the Azerbaijani media outlets presented the statement proves that Azerbaijan willy nilly recognizes NKR as a state formation,” Babayan said.

He also added that the statement of the High Commissioner should be considered as a timid implication of the fact of human rights violation by Azerbaijan.

“Of course, the UN representatives have repeatedly visited the refugee camps in Azerbaijan, which are built in a Hollywood, or rather Bollywood style and are meant for the public. And they realize very well that the real situation is much worse. The High Commissioner’s statement implied that they have no access to the territory which is much wider than Nagorno-Karabakh, not being informed about the actual situation of the refugees in Azerbaijan,” the Spokesman noted.

In his words, the attempts of the Azerbaijani media to distort the statement of the High Commissioner should also be considered in the context of tomorrow’s hearings in the U.S. Congress on the human rights situation in Azerbaijan. “Falsification is a tested Azerbaijani method,” Babayan stressed.

He noted that the UN representatives visited Karabakh even before, including during the first fact-finding mission. “We have always said that we are open for the visits of the representatives of international organizations. If the High Commissioner or his representatives want to visit Nagorno-Karabakh, they can do that any time.  The problems are brought about by Azerbaijan’s “black list.” Although it has long ago turned into a list of honor, and being included in it is a great honor for human rights defenders and experts in that area,” Babayan noted, adding that the timid criticism against Azerbaijan should become more targeted, especially considering the fact that various international organizations possess the information on what is going on in that country.
