His daughter said that her father and the family celebrated the Bar Mitzvah in Haifa synagogue with friends. Crystal was born in Poland in 1903 . He should have celebrated his Bar Mitzvah in 1916 , but his mother died three years before that, and his father was conscripted into the Russian army.

Bar Mitzvah  is a Jewish ritual , which is carried out when the Jewish boy or girl reach their religious adulthood ( 13 years and 1 day  for boys and 12 years and 1 day for girls ) . Israel Kristal survived in Auschwitz concentration camp, where he had lost his wife and two children. Kristal in 1950 immigrated to Israel with his second wife and son. He was named the world's oldest man, after Yasutaro Koide had passed away on January 19, 2016.
