The CIS summit has made a decision to pass the presidency of cooperation to Russia starting from January 1, 2017 , reports the RIA Novosti.

"I would also like to inform you that in accordance with the relevant documents a decision was made to pass the CIS cooperation presidency to the Russian Federation from 1 January. Mr Putin, of course ,  I have to ask you to confirm your CIS chairmanship from the next year. Do you accept it?" asked the President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev at the council session of the CIS Heads of States.

The Russian president replied that accepting the chairmanship suggestion is an “honor” for him . The next CIS summit will be held in Moscow on October 11.
