YEREVAN. – The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is satisfied with the results of local elections on September 18.

RPA Vice Chairman Armenia Ashotyan noted about the above-said at a press conference on Tuesday.

“The elections showed that we [i.e. the RPA] continue to enjoy public confidence; the party is satisfied with the triumph it has achieved,” he said. “The overwhelming majority of the candidates that were nominated by us have received a vote of confidence and have been elected.”

Ashotyan also stated that it is possible to achieve change in Armenia through elections.

“We welcome political competition,” said the RPA vice chairman. “It’s good that new [political] parties [in the country] are able to compete.”

Armenia Ashotyan added, however, that the Armenian public has no confidence towards the other political forces.

Local government elections were conducted on September 18, in 317 communities in Aragatsotn, Ararat, Armavir, Syunik, and Tavush Provinces in Armenia.
