YEREVAN. - The Armenian taxi drivers can lawfully use gadgets instead of taximeters.

First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication, Artur Araqelyan, said the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am. According to him, such an order has been in effect for already several months, he added.

If the taxi drivers want to work by taximeters, they buy those approved by the Institute of Metrology.  Alternatively, they can obtain gadgets from the Economy Ministry, which provides notice that the gadget counts kilometers by GPS correctly.

To the question as to whether the owner of a taxi service cannot order intervention with the program so that it turns the meter in their favor, Araqelyan noted that such thing is ruled out.

“Intervention is impossible, since the devices work by GPS navigation, and it is impossible to somehow interfere with it,” the Deputy Minister said.

Earlier, Chairman of the Branch Union of Taxi Services Employers of Armenia, Vahagn Sahakyan, argued against the new order. According to him, the GPS-meters on the gadgets are unreliable, since they can be easily subjected to intervention.
