YEREVAN. – The information technology (IT) and aviation sectors will be under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport and Communication, Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan said at Thursday’s Cabinet session.

In Karapetyan’s words, since the Ministry of Economy will start to assist the entire private sector of Armenia, it is illogical to leave separate sectors such as IT and tourism under its coordination.

As per the PM, IT is closer to the communication sector, and the newly appointed transport and communication  minister has experience in this domain.

“The matter of transferring the [Armenian government-affiliated] General Department of Civil Aviation to the Ministry of Transport is also being discussed,” added Karen Karapetyan. “So as to create a single agency for the resolution of all transport issues.”
