Researchers of San Diego University have conducted a study, which revealed that loneliness is a state of mind which is determined by genetics. Loneliness for people is more dangerous than obesity. 10 thousand people above 50 were examined within the framework of the research. It was found out that loneliness is linked to the development of depression and neurosis;  loneliness and schizophrenia or bipolar disorder are also correlated.

Researchers also noted that one of two people of the same surroundings might have problems, whereas the other might not. Moreover, only one of them may feel lonely. As a result, scientists have concluded that about 55 percent of loneliness is determined by heritage and inclination towards that  emotional state.
