YEREVAN. – On October 2, local self-government elections will be held in six provinces of Armenia, as well as two communities of Armavir province, where they were recognized invalid.

Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Tigran Mukuchyan, said the aforementioned at a press-conference on Friday.

In his words, the overall number of the communities, where the elections will be held, is 373, plus two communities of Armavir province.

“It should be noted that this doesn’t include Gyumri and Vanadzor cities, where also municipal elections will be held. Eight parties will take part in the elections in Vanadzor, whereas those in Gyumri will include ten parties and one bloc,” Mikuchyan said.

According to him, none of the parties has submitted a statement of rejection. “292 communities will elect community leaders, city council members being elected in 239 communities. 523 candidates take part in the elections, excluding Gyumri and Vanadzor,” the CEC Chairman added.

In his words, the results of city council elections were recognized invalid in two communities of Armavir province, the minimal number of candidates not being ensured there.
