YEREVAN. - Let the law enforcement authorities check the rumors on Gyumri’s mayor candidate Samvel Balasanyan.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) member Khosrov Harutyunyan said the aforementioned in the parliament on Tuesday, commenting on the hearsay that the Balasanyan’s campaign headquarters is going to engage in mass voter bribery.

According to the MP, neither Balasanyan nor other candidates of municipal government need such falsifications, but these rumors should be checked so that nobody is left with doubts.

“As the leader of the Christian-Democratic Union, which supports Balasanyan and is included in his bloc in Gyumri, I officially state: take his statements as a basis and carry out necessary checks,” Harutyunyan said.

On October 2, the city council elections in Armenia’s Gyumri and Vanadzor cities will for the first time be held by proportional lists. The winning political forces will be able to appoint mayors. The current mayor of Gyumri, Samvel Balasanyan, has topped the bloc of the ruling RPA and the Christian-Democratic Union.
