The major construction work on the world's longest cross-sea bridge, which connects Zhuhai city with Hong Kong and Macao, is coming to a close, Xinhua reports.

The construction of the 55-km bridge began in December 2009. The implementation of the project includes construction of 6.7-km undersea tunnel and 22.9-km bridge, as well as several checkpoints.

The commissioning of the bridge will allow to significantly invigorate human exchanges between Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macao, creating create greater convenience for the development of economic and personal ties of Hong Kong and Macao with the internal districts of the country.
