YEREVAN. – The National Assembly of Armenia on Thursday passed the bill on making structural changes within the government.

The proposed law passed by a vote of 76 for, 10 against, and 6 abstentions, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informed from Parliament.

Pursuant to this newly adopted law, the Ministry of Economy shall be renamed as the Ministry of Economic Development and Investment; the Ministry of Transport and Communication—as the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technology; and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources—as the Ministry of Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources.

In addition, it is proposed that the Ministry of Urban Development be restructured as the State Committee for Protection of Architecture and Cultural Monuments.

Newly appointed Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan had submitted these proposals at a recent Cabinet meeting. He had noted that the new government makeup shall increase the effectiveness of governance.
