YEREVAN. – The recorded cases of violence against women are increasing year by year in Armenia.

Hasmik Gevorgyan, Project Coordinator at the Women’s Support Center, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday.

“This is not related to whether or not the cases of domestic violence have increased [in Armenia],” said Gevorgyan. “This is because awareness has risen more; women [in the country now] know where they can to ask for assistance.”

She noted that the problems of women victims of violence in Armenia are disregarded by the state, which does not help them in any way.  

The center representative added that even though there are relative organizations, they do not operate in proper manner.

In Hasmik Gevorgyan’s words, unless a state-level attention is paid to this matter, the cases of violence against women will gradually become more severe in Armenia.
