The Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the crisis in Syria and the situation in Ukraine.

The press service of Kremlin reports that the issue of Ukraine was also discussed from a viewpoint to intensify the implementation of the Minsk agreements. The participants of the discussion pointed to the need to synchronize efforts in the fields of security and politics. Putin expressed a hope that the Ukrainian side, in its turn, will avoid provocations in the conflict zone and finally will take real steps to fulfill its political commitments.

He, particularly, referred to the implementation of constitutional reforms and amnesty, and a prerequisite of providing a permanent legal status to Donbass. The further schedule of contacts in "Norman format" was agreed.

Referring to the situation in Syria, they stressed the need to consolidate the efforts of the international community to ensure the cease-fire in the country, based on the Russian-American agreements on 9 September. Putin again stressed that American partners should fulfill their promises and distinguish moderate opposition from terrorist groups. The Russian side will continue its efforts aimed at improving the humanitarian situation in Syria and ensuring a sustainable cease-fire.
