Communication in a foreign language affects morality, claim the article of British and Italian scientists, published in Cognition. Scientists studied actions of people who were faced with ambiguous situations and described them in a foreign language, reports the Planet-today.
One of these situations is the classic example of a train. A person should make a choice - either do nothing, in this case the train will pass over 5 people, or change the direction of the train, “thanks” to which it will kill "only" one man. The latest case will be the result of a deliberate action, and not everyone dares to take.
However, when the situation is explained in a foreign language, the person will be inclined to discuss the situation without unnecessary emotional fluctuations and will choose the most practical approach - saving 5 and "killing" one.
