YEREVAN. – In the past two days, the main topic of discussion in the political arena of the Republic of Armenia (RA) is why President Serzh Sargsyan, after all, does not yet appoint the ministers of foreign affairs and defense, according to Zhoghovurd newspaper.

“Zhoghovurd has learned that this delay has a very simple and technical reason: [Acting FM] Edward Nalbandian needs to return to Armenia [from his working visit to the US]. It is believed that he has returned yesterday [i.e. Friday] night. [And,] accordingly, the decree on his being reappointed to the position of FM shall be issued today or tomorrow.

“And as for the matter of the RA minister of defense, Presidential Chief of Staff Vigen Sargsyan will be appointed to this position. Zhoghovurd daily has found out[, however,] that V. Sargsyan will be engaged solely in the organization of the activities of the Ministry of Defense, including with procurements and remaining ‘civilian’ matters. And Serzh Sargsyan will personally carry out the commanding of the RA Armed Forces, by way of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces,” wrote Zhoghovurd.
