On the first day of the autumn session of the Azerbaijani parliament, MPs decided to resume relations with the European Parliament, interrupted at the initiative of the Azerbaijani side a year ago.

As contact.az reported, relations were suspended after 10 September, 2015 the European Parliament adopted an “unfair and biased resolution” against Azerbaijan. The resolution implies the adoption of sanctions against the government of Azerbaijan for human rights violations in the country and demanded release of all political prisoners.

In April 2016 the European Parliament sent a delegation to the Euronest PA Azerbaijan for the resumption of dialogue between the Milli Mejlis and the European Parliament. Following the visit and negotiations, it adopted a joint statement, which expressed the need for the resumption of cooperation.
