YEREVAN. - The economic issues of Armenia have mainly to do with the outside environment; thus the internal issues are irresolvable without addressing the external ones.

Economist Ashot Yeghiazaryan said the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

“First of all, in the sense that Armenia has serious limitations here and is actually deprived of the opportunity to conduct foreign economic policy, choose partners and engage in different regional projects. Armenia hasn’t got this independence. Our country has made commitments in the framework of the EAEU, basically isolating itself from both the global economy and regional developments. Armenia has serious issues in making use of these developments,” the economist stressed.

In his words, Armenia’s isolation results in deadlock also in terms of solving the domestic issues. “The domestic issues present in Armenia – corruption and monopolies, including in infrastructures - which limit our development, are largely due to exactly those external obligations. When a country is isolated and has no opportunity to conduct foreign policy on its own, those issues become irresolvable and the measures aimed at their solution turn into imitation processes.”

According to Ashot Yeghiazaryan, Armenia should get out of isolation and engage in larger region, where specific rules of games are in place, this creating more favorable conditions for efficient struggle against faulty phenomena.

“That is, the issues which may emerge anytime can actually be solved, but it is almost impossible to solve them in the current conditions of our country. Let’s say, forced attempt will be made to solve the issue of shadow economy, but I don’t think it will be of such a scale which the future of the entire country will depend on.  This issue should be solved, but I don’t think it is to be the key issue the economy faces. The internal issues are mainly irresolvable.”
