President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who is also the President of the Chess Federation of Armenia, on Saturday, attended the opening of Yerevan Open International Chess Tournament at the Chess Academy of Armenia.  

It is the first time Armenia has been hosting the tournament, which will be held from October 1 to 10.

The opening ceremony was also attended by the President of the European Chess Union Zurab Azmaiparashvili.

140 chess players from 11 countries, including 23 international grandmasters and nine international masters, applied for participating in the tournament.
