YEREVAN. - President of Armenian Serzh Sargsyan on Monday met with the Secretary General of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai.

Welcoming the guest, Sargsyan highly appreciated the organization’s role and significance as the main international forum in the area of tourism.

Underscoring Armenia’s years-long and efficient cooperation with the organization, the President expressed hope that Secretary General Taleb Rifai’s subsequent visit will give a new impetus to the further development and deepening of that cooperation.

The President also welcomed the UNWTO 38th affiliated members session held in Armenia, noting that the event was also a good opportunity to get familiarized on the ground with Armenia’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

At the meeting, Taleb Rifai briefed President Sargsyan on the programs implemented so far in the framework of the cooperation with the UNWTO for developing different directions of tourism in Armenia. He also stressed that there are good grounds for continuing and strengthening that cooperation.

According to the Secretary General, the recent few years saw a significant progress in the improvement of infrastructures, starting from the airport.

Apart from this, at the meeting, Taleb Rifai presented the Armenian President his ideas and proposals regarding the complete use of tourism potential and the work aimed at presenting the country with all its privileges and attraction.
