NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO cannot isolate Russia and should not even take any measures to accomplish that. However, the alliance must increase defense in order to avoid the possible conflict with Moscow, RT reported.

As Stoltenberg told Italian newspaper La Stampa, they were not engaged in a Cold War but the former partnership which had been achieved very hard, no longer existed. He noted that they had not had such relations with Moscow before.

According to him, NATO has to adapt to calls and respond to them. He noted that the message of alliance is “protection and dialogue” and not “protection or dialogue”.

Stoltenberg said that as long as NATO consistently adhered to the chosen path, it would be possible to continue the dialogue with Russia, their most important neighbor. He noted that NATO could isolate Russia in no way and they should not even try to.
