On October 17 in St.  Andrews University, Scotland, there took place an annual foam fight for newcomers, during which students jostled each other, spraying shaving cream, reports the Scotsman. 

The foam fight is a part of so-called Raisin Weekend, during which the academic parents hold parties for new students. On weekends, students throw parties with alcohol and on Monday a foam fight. It is a very old tradition. In the medieval period, the newcomer gave 1 pound of raisins to his ' parents ‘ as a sign of gratitude. However, now newcomers choose to give beverages as gifts.
