Elections for Venezuela's state governorships will be held in 2017 rather than December as expected, National Election Board head Tibisay Lucena stated.

The last regional elections were held in Venezuela in late 2012. The exact term of the organization of the new elections is not recorded in the constitution, however authority of the acting governors will expire  in January, 2017,  eNCA reported.

Venezuelan opposition considers that such a delay is beneficial first of all for United Socialist Party of Venezuela and President Nicolás Maduro who is losing voices because of the economic crisis in the country.
