YEREVAN. - The regional consultation of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) was held in Yerevan Wednesday.

Delegates from 39 countries attended the meeting. Armenian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Armen Harutyunyan was also present at the event.

Head of the Veterinary Department of the State Food Security Service of the Armenian Agriculture Ministry, Hovhannes Mkrtchyan, told Armenian News – NEWS.am that the veterinary service of the republic enjoys confidence among partner states, since it never conceals cases of livestock disease.

“Certain diseases, for instance foot-and-mouth disease, are so contagious that their causative agents can cross borders not only through live animals and meat but also through other organic products. Therefore, it is necessary to constantly inform each other [on such cases]. We follow that necessity,” Mkrtchyan noted.

In the framework of the Organisation, the Armenian specialists are learning the World Animal Health Information System (WAHIS), which will help them also in their future work, the official added.
