Burundi's parliament supported the proposal of the president Pierre Nkurunziza  to leave  the International Criminal Court under the Roman Statute. The United Nations took the decision of Burgundi into consideration and called it a serious setback in the fight against impunity of serious human rights’ violations. The head of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court Sidiki Saba said that he was extremely concerned about those developments. He called on the Burundi authorities to negotiate with the Assembly of States Parties. It is noteworthy to mention, that the ICC jurisdiction spreads over the most serious international crimes. Rome Statute came into force in 2002 on July 1. Currently, it has 124 member states.
