YEREVAN. - Armenia can manufacture local organic fertilizers at a price much lower than the imported ones.
Founder of Green Pharm LLC, Hrach Hakobyan, who took part in the ArmProdExpo exhibition, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.
The company, which manufactures its own fertilizers, has already appied for certifying them as organic ones.
''We buy grass and manure from farmers, subject them to thermal processing, drying, fermentation and pasteurization. There is alsmost zero chemistry there,'' Hakobyan noted.
The company has already received a certificate of comliance from both Standard Dialogue laboratory and National Institute of Standards. It has also applied to the Scientific Center of Vegetable and Industrial Crops of the Armenian Agriculture Mininstry for a technical appraisal. ''Of course, organic products are not cheap. Nor are their fertilizers. But, as I said, the local analogues are for several times chaper than the imported ones. And people – both farmers and citizens - turn to us more and more frequently for their allotment gardens,'' the businessman added.
In Hakobyan's words, the fertilizer not only raises the crop yield, but is also a means for soil modification: it kills harmful fungal microorganisms and helps plants take up the residual concentration of chemical fertilizers.
