The movements opposing the European integration and EU traditional political systems have recently intensified, said the Czech PM, the leader of the Czech Social Democrats Bohuslav Sobotka, reports the České noviny.

According to him, the political movements that are emerging in Europe, target their activities at the failure of European integration. Premier Sobotka considers the deterioration of integration aspirations as the main threat for the European continent. “The only alternative to the single market and cooperation is confrontation, national competition and protectionism,” he said.

In his opinion, social democrats should do their best to understand the desires and aspirations of the middle and lower class, small business owners, retirees and young people. Sobotka believes that Social Democrats should ensure success and safety of people and protect the freedom and liberal democracy, which is threatened by populists, xenophobes and oligarchs.
