YEREVAN. - Theoretically it may be possible for Nairit and Vanadzor’s Khimprom plants to restart their operations, but there are no such proposals today, while the state shouldn’t deal with that business.

Armenian Premier Karen Karapetyan said the aforementioned Saturday in an interview with the representatives of a number of Armenian TV companies.

“If a man comes and says he is going to invest 500 mln, taking the risks for 10 years, and we believe that he won’t leave tomorrow, this burden doesn’t remain on the country. And if we say that we won’t listen to any proposal today, you will say we are biased and non-objective. Thus, there is perhaps a possibility that such a proposal may be made. But we have no such proposals on the table now,” he noted.

According to Karapetyan, Nairit’s operation in Armenia is a very difficult issue. Three or four attempts were made, but nobody wanted a 10-year forecast for energy carriers, the PM noted.

“I think that if a potential investor doesn’t raise such an issue, there is no need to continue talking to him. Much depends on this: if you don’t understand what will happen in 10 years, how are you going to invest such a great amount and take up such a burden? If an individual or a group comes up to us with specific proposals, we will hold very open and transparent negotiations with them,” Karapetyan said.
