YEREVAN. – The European Union (EU) considers supporting economic growth in the EU Eastern Partnership countries to be the core of its activities.

Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Monday. He noted this as he presented the series of events, entitled “EU for Business,” which kicked off on the same day in capital city Yerevan, and which will run for about one week.

Świtalski noted that the new Armenian government also has this matter on the focus of its program, and the EU stands ready to assist the government in implementing reforms and that a successful transition be made toward a productive economy.

He added that the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is a main tool for economic development in Armenia. Ambassador Świtalski also noted that there is very large unrealized potential in the domain of SMEs in the country.

As per the EU diplomat, the next direction is foreign investments toward the development of Armenia. He said they have faith that the future signing of the Armenia-EU framework agreement as well as the ongoing reforms will help bring additional foreign investment to the country.

Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia stressed that they consider economic cooperation to be mutually beneficial. As per Piotr Świtalski, the more successful Armenia’s economy is, it will be that much better for the EU. He assured that, in this sense, the Government of Armenia is on the right track.
