YEREVAN. - We must all strive to move forward without forgetting what happened in the past.

Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Fra' Matthew Festing, told the aforementioned to journalists Monday after his visit to the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex in the framework of his state visit to Armenia.

In his words, the Complex is a very meaningful place for the Armenian people. “The meeting with the President was very important, but visiting this place was of analogous importance, since I know how significant this place is for you,” Fra' Matthew Festing noted.

Last year the Prince attended the mass served by Pope Francis to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. “This showed that such events in history can’t be forgotten. But the fact is that many people, specifically the young generation, don’t know about this. Thus, I think it is utterly important that people like me visit the memorial and honor the memory of the victims of these terrible events. We must all remember the victims and pray for them,” His Majesty said.

Responding to the Armenian News – NEWS.am question as to what he would urge Turkey, which continues denying the fact of the Armenian Genocide, the Prince of the Sovereign Order of Malta noted: “I know that the international community is horrified by what happened. We must all strive to move forward, without forgetting what happened in the past.”

Fra' Matthew Festing paid a state visit to Armenia on October 22.
