YEREVAN. – Do you have any statistics on how many dual citizens there are in Armenia?

Opposition “Prosperous Armenia” [Party] National Assembly (PAP NA) Faction member Mikayel Melkumyan on Tuesday asked the aforementioned to Deputy Police Chief Vardan Yeghiazaryan, in the NA.

“You also noted that certain categories of positions [in Armenia] are restricted [for dual citizens],” added Melkumyan. “What are these restrictions conditioned on?”

Yeghiazaryan responded that Police of Armenia conduct such accounting.

“As of today, there are informational data regarding 95,839 dual citizens in our archives,” he added. “Within 1.5 months, as of August 20, this number was 94,050; that is, it increased by even more than 1.5 thousand.”

In his words, dual citizenship restrictions in Armenia apply to all officials, including MPs.

Melkumyan, in turn, noted that such increase in the number of dual citizens in the country is a cause for concern.

“If it continues at this rate, we will have problems,” said the PAP deputy. “I’m quite concerned about this because I see consequences arising from dual citizenship [in Armenia].”
