The German Foreign Ministry has canceled performance of Dresden Symphony Orchestra devoted to the Armenian Genocide scheduled on November 13 in the German Consulate in Istanbul. The German Foreign Ministry official announcement reads that the main Consulate premises in Istanbul will not be used, reports the DW.
Earlier, Dresden Symphony Orchestra invited the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the performance to commemorate the Armenian Genocide. On November 13, the Orchestra also invited the Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu, and the Minister of Culture Nabi Avcı to the German Consulate in Istanbul. The invitation reads that the performance is dedicated to sufferings of the Armenian and Turkish people. The orchestra will perform a composition about the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. In addition, the event plans to establish a German Union of Armenian-Turkish friendship.
