October 28 is International Animation Day (IAD).

IAD was proclaimed in 2002 by the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA), on the 110th anniversary of the public presentation of the first animation technology, and as the main global event to celebrate the art of animation.

This day commemorates the first public performance of French inventor Charles-Émile Reynaud’s Théâtre Optique (optical theater), a moving picture show of images projected onto a screen, in Paris, on October 28, 1892.

This very day is now considered the beginning of the era of animated film.

In numerous countries, IAD celebrations begin several days before October 28.
