YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan has met an impasse; and if it were not for Russia’s support, it could do nothing in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Armenian Center of Political and International Studies analyst Ruben Mehrabyan stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Friday.

“We are entering into active negotiation processes, which will last until the end of the year,” said Mehrabyan. “[But] its effectiveness will depend on whether or not the US will be able to force Russia to play by its rules.

“Azerbaijan is resorting to tensions at the line of contact [with Karabakh]. But saying that, ‘now the situation is very tense at the border,’ would be a bit of an exaggeration. But it’s apparent that this escalation [of tension], escalating trend exists.”
