Yerkir Union (Javakhk Armenians Union) welcomes RA President’s position on the major problems of Armenians in Javakhk and other regions of Georgia, esteeming it as clear and precise, statement received by NEWS.am reads.

“The steps proposed by Armenian President are concordant with recommendations addressed to Georgian Government by a number of international organizations, including UN Commission on Human Rights and Council of Europe, as well as authoritative NGOs. Yerkir Union calls Georgian Government to admit the presence of language-educational, religious and cultural issues Armenians face in Georgia. In addition, Georgia has to undertake effective steps toward the solution to these problems through techniques under international forms and liabilities for the protection of ethnic minorities’ rights,” the document concludes.

At yesterday’s meeting with MFA personnel and diplomatic corps’ representatives Serzh Sargsyan underlined: “Our policy logic concerning Javakhk should proceed from the premise of ‘integration without assimilation’. Integration in this case implies that Armenian population will have perspectives of becoming successful and respectable citizens of Georgia. I reckon that imparting Armenian language a regional status, provision of Armenian Apostolic church with status and steps toward the protection of Armenian monuments will assist the reinforcement of Armenian-Georgian friendship as well as deepening of mutual confidence atmosphere.”
