U.S. threatened Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide if Ankara refuses to deploy missile-defense system in its territory. Washington presented its stance on the Iranian-Turkish relations, Israeli-Turkish ties and future of American-Turkish relations in the context of NATO’s missile-defense plans, Hurriyet Daily News & Economic Review reported.
Washington warned Ankara that recognition of the Armenian Genocide may become reality unless there is improvement on the three mentioned issues.
“Frustrated by the growing divergence of views, the United States has warned Turkey that it will not be able to block the adoption by the U.S. Congress of a resolution based on Armenian genocide claims,” the newspaper writes.
U.S. offered Turkey to deploy missile defense system in its territory but official Ankara has not responded yet.
