Today a group of young people organized a protest action near the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan. The activists protested against Iranian authorities’ decision to execute 43-year-old Sakineh Ashtiani accused of adultery.

One of the organizers Lusine Vayachyan told NEWS.am that young people hung posters and put stones near embassy symbolizing previous decision to execute the woman by stoning.  Stoning verdict was replaced by hanging.

Lusine Vayachyan was invited to the embassy where she presented the essence of the protest. She was told that they could not understand of who she was speaking. Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Seyed Ali Saqqaiyan stated that there are many arrested women in Iran. “We tried to explain that such execution violates human rights, but the Ambassador noted there are arrested women in Europe as well,” Vayachyan said.

The protestors intend to permanently gather near the embassy.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, Sakineh Ashtiani was sentenced to death by stoning for adultery.

After the story was made public, Iranian authorities agreed to postpone execution.
