Armenian-Turkish reconciliation may be successful only in case Russian troops are withdrawn from Armenia. Otherwise, the process will be of no sense, said George Friedman, Stratfor’s chief executive officer, 1news.az reported referring to the Turkish press.

Turkey should not speak with Armenia of Nagorno-Karabakh but decrease of Russia’s influence on the country, he noted. Deployment of Russian troops in Armenia is not in Turkey’s interests. Under these conditions, it is useless for Turkey to open the border with Armenia. Moreover, in this case Ankara can deteriorate relations with Azerbaijan, he added.

Friedman compared present Turkey’s power with that of U.S. in 1930-40. The expert considers Turkey has power but there are no structures to direct it properly.
