Marian Gishyan, a mother of five children, who was thrown out of her house in Northern Avenue (Yerevan) in 2004, has sought asylum in Turkey and is waiting for a positive answer.

On November 16, the Armenian woman arrived in Turkey by bus and applied to the foreign citizen’s administration for an asylum, Turkish Hurriyet daily reports.

“I have arrived in Turkey for my children not to remain in the street. They called me every day and ask to take them with me. I borrowed money to get a bus ticket. I hope my application will be accepted. If I had money, I would go to Ankara to meet Turkish President Abdullah Gul. He would understand and help me,” the woman said.

According to Armenian media publications, Mariam lived in a 6-house in Northern Avenue. She was not allowed to privatize her house. The territory now belongs to Samvel Mairapetyan, the director of the Toyota-Yerevan Company and owner of the G2 TV company. Mariam Gishyan was offered U.S. $20,000. She refused, but even if she had taken the money she would never purchase a flat in Yerevan.
