YEREVAN.- Membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is the reason of price increase in Armenia, the president of the Consumer Counseling Center (NGO), Karen Chilingaryan told reporters on Tuesday.

According to him, after Armenia's membership in the EAEU, excise taxes increased, and according to the laws of this organization, taking into account that price level in other member countries of EAEU is slightly higher, there was a need to eliminate this imbalance by increasing excise taxes.

"It is about the compressed gas which is considered the cheapest fuel here. However, its price also went up for the same reason, "Chilingaryan explained.

"Armenia's membership in the EAEU likely has been dictated by political reasons rather, than economic. From the economic point of view, this has not given us anything. Georgia and Azerbaijan, which are not members of this organization, also have the opportunity to supply their products to the Russian market, "said Karen Chilingaryan.
