Governments are trying to influence public opinion on the Internet, blogger Evgeny Morozov writes in his new book The Net Delusion. He calls it “Spinternet” – way to spread government-approved ideas to affect opinion of the Internet users, Computer World website reported.  

So- called “Spinternet” works in China, such countries as Iran and Azerbaijan, Morozov says.

For instance, Chinese government funds online bloggers who voice pro-government views. They are known as the Fifty-Cent Party, the money they allegedly earn for each comment.

According to Morozov, such countries as Azerbaijan and Iran are also training generation of religious bloggers.

In his book blogger also mentions that such giants as Google, Twitter and Yahoo may also be a tool of U.S. government’s propaganda.
