The Armenian side controls the situation on the border with Azerbaijan and is ready to rebuff any encroachments, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian stated during his visit to Yerablur military cemetery.

“Today a relative peace has been established on the frontline. However, the truce has been regularly violated since 1994 and snipers go on firing at Karabakh positions,” Ohanyan said. Following the OSCE Summit in Astana, the tension along the line of contact somewhat receded.  However, according to the minister, the situation on the contact line is again strained.

“We are ready to give an adequate rebuff to any encroachments of the enemy. We are ready not only to silence the enemy with a retaliatory fire, but also respond to Azerbaijan’s warlike statements, which fail to understand that we dealt with the situation on credit.  Ohanyan stressed that it is the fighting spirit and high morale, not the number of troops indicates the army’s fighting efficiency.

Commenting on the question of whether Karabakh war veterans will again struggle for Karabakh if military hostilities resume, Ohanyan said: “Any participant in the Karabakh war, who endangered his life for his motherland, will do it again if Nagorno-Karabakh is in danger. No social problems will prevent him from doing so,” the Minister emphasized.
