Armenian environmentalists got indignant at the Armenian Government’s decision setting a 100,000 AMD (U.S. $280) cash bonus for killing a wolf. “With grave socio-economic conditions in our country, and the Government offering 100,000 AMD for a wolf, wolf hunt may get out o control,” Silva Adamyan, Chairwoman of the Bird Lovers Center, told Ecolur. To help communities, the Government should distribute rifles among local residents to enable them to defend from the wild animals. Paying cash bonuses for killing wolves may put an end to existence of wolves in Armenia.

Armenian News-NEWS.am reminds readers that Feb. 10 the Armenian Government approved measures to regulate the wolf population in the country.

“Because of human activities wolves lost their natural habitat and cannot get food. So they attack settlements. We, for our part, are trying to lay the responsibility for our own crimes on them. Our people have a barbaric attitude to the animal world, and now we are encouraging it by offering money,” Adamyan said.
